Renovation of a Derelict Victorian House in Kensington

This Victorian house renovation in Kensington began with a terrace of only 110 sq m, within a conservation area, bought by our clients at auction in a state of complete disrepair — and backing onto a railway some 20 metres below the level of the house. The first challenge was structural: stitching and underpinning the house to prevent its collapse. Only then could we design a family home as a turnkey project, including all the interiors. On the top floor, a sliding skylight opens the roof to create a terrace with a well-proportioned deck — a valuable outdoor amenity for a house with no conventional garden.
