Conversion of the fisrt floor and loft, providing additional accommodation and amenities for a family home.

Our clients had lived in this 1950s detached house for several years. They had done some work on the house, including a single-storey rear extension. The social area functioned well, but the bedrooms on the first floor needed improvement. The first floor had one double bedroom, one single bedroom with a shared family bathroom, and the Principal Bedroom with an En-suite bathroom.

However, the main issue was the Principal Bedroom, where fitted wardrobes cramped the room. They asked us to design an extension on the first floor over the existing single-storey extension. This plan would create a larger Principal Bedroom with a new En-suite bathroom and an additional double bedroom for their son. The existing single bedroom would become a study.

While discussing the design with the Planning Authorities, they requested an extension of the existing pitched tiled roof over the new extension. This request provided potential space to use the loft as a habitable area. We obtained permission to insert five dormer windows. As a result, we converted this space into a music/chill-out room, a small bedroom, and a potential shower room. We left the shower room plumbed for future use while it serves as storage in the meantime.
