Renovation of a Listed Georgian House in Highgate Village

This renovation in Highgate Village returned a Grade II listed Georgian property in the Highgate Village Conservation Area to its former grandeur after an unflattering renovation in the 1950s. Securing both full planning permission and listed building consent from Camden in 2011, we replaced the existing single-storey side extension with a part single, part two-storey extension, rearranged the layout throughout, and converted the former garage into a library. The consent required detailed 1:1 moulding and architrave drawings, glazing bar details for every new window, and on-site approval of brick and coping stone samples — a measure of the care demanded, and delivered, in matching the historic fabric. Original features were maintained while new elements were integrated in a contemporary style, creating striking juxtapositions between old and new. We were also responsible for the interior design, selecting key internal joinery and furniture to complete the design concept.
