First-Floor Extension and Loft Conversion in Mill Hill

Our clients had lived in this 1950s detached house in Mill Hill for several years. They had already completed some work, including a single-storey rear extension, and the social areas functioned well — but the first-floor bedrooms no longer suited the family, with the principal bedroom in particular cramped by its fitted wardrobes.

Our design extended the first floor over the existing ground-floor extension, adding approximately 60 square metres, and redistributed the layout to create five bedrooms, two with en-suite bathrooms. The works included the complete refurbishment of the first floor — lighting, heating, electrics, joinery and decoration — with a larger principal bedroom and new en-suite, an additional double bedroom for the clients’ son, and the former single bedroom converted into a study.

During the planning process, the authorities requested that we extend the pitched tiled roof over the new structure. This offered the opportunity for a loft conversion, and we secured permission for five dormer windows. The loft now provides a music and chill-out room, a further bedroom, and a shower room — plumbed and ready, currently serving as storage.
